Fauve artist

“Les Fauves” were a group of early 20th century modern painters who employed an artistic style that emphasized a rich use of saturated colors, wild brush strokes, with a more abstract simplification of the scene rather than the more realistic features in impressionism.

Char Michelson’s Fauve style artwork has won many awards both nationally and internationally. She paints powerfully, depicting each scene in wild and beautiful color, with only a suggestion of reality. Char seeks out nostalgic scenes using arbitrary colors, rhythm, and vibration.

The galleries featured on this website present her work created along the central California coast, New Mexico, the Southwest, and Austin, Texas including its surrounding Hill Country.
